A new consumer AI landscape report from venture firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) indicates that competing AI products, particularly Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok, are narrowing the performance gap with the market leader, OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The report highlights a core group of consistently dominant companies. The same 14 entities have remained on the list of top AI products across all five iterations of the report, demonstrating sustained market leadership and user loyalty.

  • Grok (xAI): Demonstrated rapid growth, ranking fourth on the web and number on mobile. It quickly gained over 20 million monthly active users after launching a stand-alone app, with a nearly 40% climb in daily active users following the release of Grok 4 in July 2025.
  • Meta AI: Ranked number 46 on the web, but was hampered by privacy concerns and did not break into the top mobile AI apps list.
